Pre School Nursery in Glen Parva – Near Wigston
Our Pre School Nursery Children’s are provided with learning opportunities under adult supervision and their progress will be tracked through the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Learning sessions are planned according to the child’s individual interest and skills and may, at times, override our written plans as we believe spontaneity is required to maintain optimum levels of ‘well-being and involvement’. Schematic plays are arranged using various objects and a wide range of activities. These plays help Pre school children’s explore the world and come up with their own theories on how things work. These plays operate at sensory motor, symbolic and functional dependency levels.
Pre School Room
The pre school room is full of exciting natural and traditional resources to explore and enhance the children’s imagination. From dressing up, making our own potions to hunting through fields and woods for dinosaur bones (sticks and stones). Children are learning how to be kind and gentle while caring for their tortoise Raymond. They have kind hands and words (our golden rules) while making relationships with their friends, looking after each other as a family would.
The “risk rangers” have the responsibility of looking for risks both out in the local environment and in the garden, learning how to keep ourselves safe. Staff ratio is 1 adult to 8 children and we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. We have lots of opportunities to create through music and different media, sharing our ideas with our key person and our friends while increasing our concentration and listening skills ready for going to school. We use lots of malleable resources to strengthen those hand muscles ready to start writing and share books about the world we live in and diversity to ensure that every child feels a confident and have a good sense of belonging.
Preparing for school
Our nursery classes are designed to prepare children for a smooth transition into the school environment. We arrange sessions that encourage both social and educational development. An array of indoor and outdoor play equipment, which are available to the children on a ‘self-select’ basis, are used to encourage children to develop ‘schematic play’. This form of learning encourages children to explore the world within a safe and secure environment and also come up with their own theories about how things work and how various factors are related to each other.
